Melissa Johnson was selected to join the Hall of Fame class as a special designee for the lasting impact she left on Earlham College and its community. Melissa represented the Quaker women's basketball team for over 12 years. A four-year player and three-year captain, Melissa earned Earlham defensive player of the year twice as a player and helped the team to the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament finals in 2011. Upon graduation, Melissa earned the George Van Dyke Outstanding Athlete Award and the Kathryn Webber Scholar-Athlete Award. In addition to her bachelor's degree in biology from Earlham, Johnson graduated from the College's Masters of Arts in Teaching program in 2007.

Melissa spent four years as an assistant coach before taking the helm in 2011. The 2013-14 squad posted the best record for the program since Johnson was a player in 2002-03. After stepping away from the program in 2014 for a medical leave, Johnson returned to her position as head coach prior to the 2017 season, but was forced to step aside once more due to health concerns prior to the season.

Melissa passed away on July 18, 2022 after a long illness.
