Roy Messer served as Earlham’s head men’s soccer coach from 1981-2014. The winningest coach in Earlham College men’s soccer history, Messer amassed 278 victories in 34 years as head coach. The Quakers won conference titles in 1984, 1985, and 2013 under his guidance. Messer’s teams also qualified for six National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Tournaments and one National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s Soccer Tournament in 1998. A year later, Messer’s Quakers won a program-high 16 contests. A 1970 graduate of the College of Wooster, Messer was named NCAC Coach of the Year in 1997 as well as being named HCAC Coach of the Year in 2013. He also coached several conference most valuable players: Jamie Dick (1997), Orion Creamer (1997), Frank Mbaya (2013).
