Walter Johnson earned eight varsity letters during his career at Earlham College. A three-year member of the Quaker football team, he was captain of the 1929 squad. As a senior, he received honorable mention to the All-Big State team as left end and shared honors in scoring. Johnson was one of Earlham’s top three scorers on the track and field squad. Having competed in seven different events as well as running on relay teams, he tallied a team high of 62.75 points in 1928. He also lettered in basketball as a senior. In 1932, he moved to Chicago and founded the Walter L. Johnson Company representing the Fairmont Glass Works and other related companies. Retired at the time of induction, he and his wife, Marjorie, lived in Pauma Valley, Calif.
